What is a healthcare account in BPO?

In a BPO, an "account" is the client your team works for. On a healthcare account, that client is in US healthcare, so the calls, records and rules are medical. Some healthcare accounts in Cebu serve health insurers and their members. Ours serve the provider side: the hospitals and practices behind a US revenue cycle company.

The work comes in two kinds: patient-facing calls (booking appointments, explaining medical bills) and billing back-office work (following insurance claims and denials until the provider is paid). Both use medical terms all day, which is why our patient scheduling role is open to Nursing, MedTech, RadTech and allied health graduates and undergraduates.

The healthcare roles we hire for

Each posting has the full duties, requirements and salary package. Every role needs good spoken and written English and strong attention to detail.

CSR / Healthcare Specialist: patient scheduling and appointment setting

You help US patients book appointments and procedures with the right specialist, following each practice's protocols. On every call you confirm demographics, check the payment method (Medicare, private insurance or self-pay), make sure referrals and authorizations are in place, and tell the patient what to bring and pay at the visit. You document every call. Success means patients get the right appointment the first time. The role is open to graduates and undergraduates of Nursing, MedTech, RadTech or another allied health program; licensed professionals, fresh graduates and board passers are welcome, and no customer service experience is needed. See the patient scheduling posting.

Patient Accounts Receivable Specialist

You are the voice patients hear when they call about a medical bill. You take inbound and outbound calls, explain balances, charges and statements in simple terms, help with payments, and record every interaction accurately. The posting asks for a year of voice work in patient accounts receivable or medical billing. See the patient accounts receivable posting.

Patient Accounts Receivable Specialist, Spanish Bilingual

The same calls in English and Spanish: you switch to the patient's language and keep every note in English. You need fluent spoken and written Spanish and English, tested in the screening call, and a year of voice customer service. Bilingual agents from other voice accounts are welcome; the posting says we train the healthcare part, and it accepts applicants willing to relocate to Cebu. See the Spanish bilingual posting.

Insurance Claims Specialist: medical claims and denials

You manage medical insurance claims, track the unpaid ones, contact payers by phone, portal and correspondence, find out why a claim was denied, correct it and submit appeals. The posting asks for a year of provider-side medical claims with hands-on denial processing; life, auto, dental, DME and pharmacy claims do not count. See the insurance claims posting.

Two Customer Service Representative postings in the list below also support healthcare work: healthcare calls (six months of healthcare BPO voice experience), and order intake with insurance verification (a year in a healthcare front office or insurance processing role).

Who does what on a healthcare account

Here is how the work splits on your account.

  • SOS hires you directly, pays your salary and benefits, runs the office, trains you through SOS Academy and gives every account an account manager.
  • The client sets the work, the systems, each practice's protocols and the quality bar for its patients.
  • You handle the calls and claims, follow the protocol, keep patient information confidential and ask your team lead when something is unclear.

Our clients' success is ours, so your account manager looks after you and the account together. Our founder, Chris Rush, opened SOS in 2010 after hiring a Philippine BPO that did not work, which is why we hire directly and keep every team in our own office.

Is a healthcare account BPO job hard?

It asks for care more than speed. As the postings put it, a small error can send a patient to the wrong place or leave a visit unpaid.

The rest is learnable: each practice's protocol tells you what to book, you work with a team lead, your account manager sits in the same building, and the openings page lists training through SOS Academy.

Pay, benefits and schedule

How pay is built. Each posting shows its salary package on its own page. The package starts with a base salary, reviewed through regular salary appraisals; on the scheduling role it depends on your experience and medical background. Night differential and holiday premium pay come on top. Some roles add a performance bonus, the insurance claims role among them.

Benefits. Every healthcare posting lists the same "What you get":

  • Salary appraisals
  • HMO and health insurance
  • Night differential and holiday premium pay
  • Service incentive leave upon regularization
  • A Monday to Friday schedule with weekends off
  • Stable full-time employment as a direct hire, with real opportunity and growth
  • A healthy work environment with employee engagement activities

Schedule. Night shift aligned to US business hours, Monday to Friday, weekends off. Our night shift jobs page explains how the Cebu night lines up with the US workday.

Where you will work

Every team member works 100 percent onsite in our Cebu office: 7F MDCT Building, Leyte Loop, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City, 6000. None of these roles is work from home, so you need to live in Cebu (or, for the bilingual role, be willing to relocate). The building is Class A, with a full building generator for backup power, redundant internet, ergonomic workstations and a coaching room. See our facilities for the building and our culture for life at SOS.

Medical billing and RCM, in plain words

Medical billing is getting a healthcare provider paid for the care it gave. RCM, or revenue cycle management, is the full chain around it, from booking to the last balance paid:

  1. Scheduling and registration. Demographics, insurance, referrals and authorizations are checked. This is the Healthcare Specialist.
  2. The visit and coding. The provider records the care and coders turn it into billing codes. Coding is not one of our current postings.
  3. Claims. The claim goes to the insurer; unpaid and denied claims are followed up, corrected and appealed. This is the Insurance Claims Specialist.
  4. Patient billing. What insurance does not cover becomes the patient's balance, and patients call with questions and to pay. This is the Patient Accounts Receivable Specialist.

Pick a posting, click Apply for this job, add your contact details and a good time to call, and upload your resume. Every applicant gets a reply. The steps, as the postings give them: a screening call in our evening (with a short Spanish conversation for the bilingual role), a short assessment, an interview with the account manager, and a final video interview with the client's team on our shift. The postings say we aim to move within days.

We never ask for payment, training fees or personal documents before a written job offer. Our how-to-apply guide covers each step, and all current job openings are on one page.
